When Snapchat has no pants

To celebrate the 15th No Pants Subway Ride in the US, Snapchat unveiled a special story yesterday, available for all users, to follow the event across the country.

We’ve already seen Snapchat roll out a story for “official” and famous events in the past like El Clasico in Spain, U2’s concert in Paris and also more recently yesterday’s Golden Globes.

However, a special story for an event as crazy and urban as No Pants Subway Ride is a first. Throughout the story we can watch participants in New York, Chicago, Phoenix and Dallas dancing, singing, taking photos with police officers or more simply just going about their day without trousers on the undergound and in the street.

As a Snapchat story, all the videos naturally come from users – and this emphasises the strength of the platform and how key it is for engaging fans.

To immerse viewers in the story, the Snapchat team added some historic stats, like the fact that the first No Pants Subway Ride in 2002 in New York had only 7 participants in comparison to more than 4,000 yesterday, some rules on how to be the perfect rider and underwear stickers as decoration.

As well as the previous ones, this new story illustrates once again Snapchat’s ability to follow the lives of their users. There is no doubt about it, the little ghost aims to be the best social media platform at understanding and engaging with its users.
