After a three-week absence, Snack Social Summary is back. Happy new year all!
To find out what happened on social media in this first week of 2016, take a look at our summary below:
10,000 characters per tweet – Twitter will do it
Definitely the social media news of the week, Twitter will soon expand the 140 character limit on a tweet to 10,000, according to sources.
Even though this should not have much impact on the Twitter timeline, as only the first 140 characters in the news feed will be shown and the 9,860 others hidden, this announcement prompted a wave of reactions on the social platform.
Twitter didn’t share an official statement, however its CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted a message via his personal account.
An enigmatic message which doesn’t reveal much information about this new feature and Twitter’s future plans. To be continued…

Bots are coming to Messenger
The mobile app has hit over 800 million users this week and will no doubt pick up many more in 2016.
Facebook wants to build bots on Messenger to develop CRM services. The social giant has provided a Chat SDK to some developers which allows them to create “bots” in Messenger for shopping, booking travel, and more.
The objective is to allow brands to use some of Messenger’s features to improve the management of their relationship with customers who use the app.

There is one emoji for the official event’s hashtag #BallondOr and six others for the finalists in the male and female categories. Each player’s names are followed by their national team jersey.
We have already seen special emojis linked to a hashtag in the football sphere for the Champions League Final and Premier League, however an emoji for an event outside of a stadium and one emoji for only one player is a first.

Donald Trump with the tweet of the week
US Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump sent out what was probably the tweet of the week, sharing his opinion when a dangerous individual was killed by police officers in Paris.
In his tweet, the politician appears to confuse Paris and Germany. A bargain for Twitter users who didn’t hesitate to make fun of this.
Man shot inside Paris police station. Just announced that terror threat is at highest level. Germany is a total mess-big crime. GET SMART!
