Yesterday, football legend Zinedine Zidane was officially appointed as the new Real Madrid manager.

Even if the announcement was somewhat predicted, the actual event created a wave of social media activity with over 1 million tweets in just a few of hours.

Take a look at some of the best reactions from social media.

Best Wishes from former teammates

Some of Zidane’s former teammates paid tribute to the new boss, wishing him all the best in the position with the notables including David Beckham who said that Zidane was “the best person for the job” in a long Instagram post. We hope for Florentino Perez’s sake that Becks is right.

A new chapter in football

Football fans will start to feel old after seeing Zidane appointed to the helm of Real Madrid, especially after this post which reminded just how fast things move.

After having a fiery 0n-field relationship with the coach of his team’s biggest rival Luis Enrique, we can expect fireworks come their showdown in April.

Fan reaction

By taking up the job to manage Real Madrid, Zidane has backed his own methods of management and his football style. In saying that, some fans won’t want to see what happens if he’s unsuccessful in the job.

Translation: I don’t want to see Zizou looses. I am feeling that my father takes the job.

Has he already won?

For some brands and medias, success for Zidane at Real Madrid is a no-brainer. The likes of Adidas, a long-term sponsor of Zidane, see him as the only one, the king!

One in, one out.

With a winner, unfortunately there is always a loser and that position is filled by Zidane’s predecessor Rafa Benitez. Benitez gets the door after just 6 months in the role.

Sad? Yes. But true to social media’s form, they took no prisoners in demonstrating how Zidane got the job.

Lead by example

6,000 people were present for Real Madrid’s first ever session under Zidane and if we can be sure of one thing, Zidane definitely knows what he’s talking about. You’d hate to play for Real’s next opponents Deportivo.
