Snack Media takes you to the Rugby World Cup 2019. Blog 10 – One to watch in Pool A, Stuart Hogg

Snack Media is spending the run-up to the 2019 Rugby World Cup taking you through the tournament, the teams and even the terms of one of the world’s most popular sports. Our tenth blog looks at Scotland’s flying fullback, Stuart Hogg.

When looking at Pool A, one of the names that jumps out as one to watch is Scotland’s Stuart Hogg.

While Scotland have a number of high quality players, Hogg is the only player that is indisputably world class. The fullback is a complete player, and while he imperious under the high ball and has a huge boot, it is his attacking game that has defined him as a player.
If Hogg is given any space in the back field, he will make teams pay with great footwork and deceptive strength for a player of his size. Defences will always be alert when he is attacking in the wider channels, and he naturally creates space for his teammates as players are drawn to him.
The 67-cap star’s only downfall is that he is injury prone, and his absences are certainly noticed. Such is the impact and influence he has on his team, that sides have been accused of targeting him in the past to get him off the field.
However, should he remain fit for the World Cup, he is definitely a player to watch, and someone who could have a major say in how far Scotland go in the tournament.
