Snapchat has released a new feature which allows new and old users to be able to search the App, find friends, groups, discover publishers and stories in a fast and easier way via the new universal search bar pinned to the top of the App. The ability to quickly access content has previously been an issue for some users, who have often struggled to find new people to follow. Snapchat is looking into developing solutions for this problem. Many brands and influencers could immediately benefit from the improved search feature, with the former potentially having the ability to sponsor placements at the top of search result suggestions in the future.

Twitter has announced that it will be shutting down the Dashboard App on 3rd February. The App was launched to help businesses connect with their customers and other Twitter users. Notably, Dashboard is not the only App under Twitter to be shut down. Vine has been re-developed into a smaller version of itself, a camera App. Dashboard was used by many businesses, due to its feature which offered them the ability to create custom feeds, watch what people were saying and engage with those people.

Facebook’s live streaming platform received an update this week allowing users to “go live” from their desktop and laptop computers. Before this development the live feature could only be utilised from tablets, camera set-ups or smartphones. The feature is currently only available to businesses and brands with Facebook Pages but will no doubt be rolled out to individual users soon. The ability to broadcast live from a desktop puts them in tighter competition with the likes of YouTube, where users often record from their PCs.
