New ways to write a tweet

Twitter has this week announced some huge changes that will be introduced in the coming months. Over the last decade, tweets have evolved from the basic 140-characters to multimedia posts using GIF’s, videos, Vines, etc. But Twitter wants users to express themselves even more.

Twitter will now bring its 140-character USP back into centre stage by excluding media attachments like photos, videos, polls, GIFs and @names in replies or conversations from the 140-character text limit.

Twitter’s new GO LIVE button

Twitter has added a GO LIVE button for some Android users when composing tweets. When tapping on the button, the App redirects the user to Periscope to start a live-stream video that will be shared automatically on the Twitter account.

This button uses the native functionality of Periscope and integrates it directly inside Twitter’s app. The goal is to attract more users to Twitter and encourage them to live stream more often.

Livestream forever on Facebook

Facebook is now letting you livestream indefinitely, with no time limit, but won’t let you save the broadcast. Before, live streams were recorded for a 90-minute maximum. According to TechCrunch, it is a new continuous video API (Application Programming Interface) that makes this possible. It enables professionals to use high-quality equipment instead of using a smartphone – a great new addition for companies organising sporting events.

Comment on Facebook using videos

Facebook has revealed a new feature for iOS and Android: video comments. Essentially, when replying to a comment, there is now a camera icon that you can tap to select a video from your gallery or record a new one. Before this update, users were only able to reply with texts and images.

The main objective with this new addition is to incite users to share more content.
