Two days prior to the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi sent 15 tweets to each member of the Indian cricket team wishing them good luck in the tournament. This act was more than just an act of kindness but a move that will cause a surge in Twitter use throughout the country to follow the county’s biggest sport.

According to a research firm called eMarketer, India’s growth market for Twitter users is supposed to grow about 37% in 2015 due to the Twitter following for the Cricket World Cup. A common joke in India is that if the nation has a population of about 1.2 billion people, roughly 1 billion will be passionate cricket fans.  These 1 billion fans are the target audience for Twitters growth.

Twitter is constantly growing and the fans in India are ready to embrace social media if it means getting closer with the country’s national past time.  These fans are more than enthusiastic about their sport.
