Top 5 tips when pitching for new business

It’s important for your company to have a great business pitch, it’s the one thing that could either get your business off the ground, attracting new business and investors or it plunges your company into the ground. When pitching for new business it’s important you personalise each pitch, find out as much information as possible and make sure you focus and cover all aims and objectives.

Here are our top 5 tips when pitching for new business:

  1. Don’t ever sell blind, clever questioning is key. Find out as much as you can about the brand’s objectives, KPI’s and passion points. Focus on these and relate everything back to them.
  2. Don’t over complicate the sale. If you show the brand too much they won’t remember what you do or what makes you different.
  3. Always summarise the pitch at the end into a maximum 3 key takeaways, explaining again to the brand what you’ve talked about and why you should work together.
  4. Too many slides can lose the clients attention, using too many slides with words on and waffle won’t make you stand out. Highlight the USP and refer to it throughout. When producing a pitch use a maximum of 10-15 slides.
  5. Don’t be overly friendly, let the pitch do the talking and slowly build rapport throughout. Assuming they like football or went out last night because you do may put them off. People buy people, people then buy the company then people buy the solution

Calum Hopkins, Snack Media’s Sales Manager stated “Pitching is like being the doctor. When you go to the doctors and are asked what’s wrong, how long it’s been like that etc, you’ll respond with something like my heads been sore for 2 months. If they recommend something for your back they’ve not listened. Always listen to the brands biggest challenge, repeat and then tell them how you can help resolve it”.
