Snapchat simplifies account recommendation

When Snapchat launched its Memories feature earlier this month, it quietly sneaked in another new feature: Suggest. As the name implies, the feature allows users to suggest users for their friends to follow.

Snapchat users can finally access the Suggest feature by tapping and holding other users’ names in the Stories list, and then tapping the blue arrow on the right, adding friends who will receive those suggestions as private chat messages. They can then see information on those accounts including actual name, handle and profile GIF.

You can now use Bitmojis on Snapchat

Snapchat now lets you use Bitmoji, personalised cartoon emojis. In March, Snapchat bought Bitstrips, the company behind Bitmoji, for a reported $100 million, so it’s no surprise that you can now use their customized emojis within the Snapchat app.

You’ll have to download the Bitmoji app and create your own Bitmoji first, but once you do that, you can link your accounts in Settings in the Snapchat app. You can send them in chats or add them to any snaps you want. Plus, if you’re talking to a friend who has also linked their Bitmoji account, you can use the combined Friendmoji on Snapchat, too.

Facebook’s Android app can now save offline videos

Facebook has released a new feature for Android users allowing them to save videos in the ‘Saved’ section inside the app itself. This can be done by tapping on the ‘Save video’ option from the drop down menu in the particular post. The saved videos can be viewed offline as many times as users want.

However, only videos posted on personal Facebook profiles and pages will automatically receive the offline video download option. Publishers can choose to make their videos available for offline downloads.

New key features on Facebook Live

After CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook is working on bringing new features to Facebook Live at the recent Live Q&A session, Facebook has begun rolling out several updates to its livestreaming capability this week. People and Page administrators will now be able to broadcast longer with Facebook Live for up to 4 hours per session (where it was limited to 2 hours before).

There is also an optional control that can hide reactions and comments during live broadcasts for users who don’t want any distractions during the stream.
