This selfie has so much Hollywood in it, it crashed Twitter! It was taken by chat show host Ellen DeGeneres and included stars such as Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence. At the moment it is the most retweeted tweet of all time, with over 255,000 tweets per minute and over 3.3 million retweets this year.

The second most tweeted about event per minute in 2014 was the half time performances at the Superbowl in February. Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers received a staggering 229,533 tweets per minute.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) came up with this humorous way to showcase their very first tweet. With over 300,000 retweets, it showed the CIA in a different light to the usual stern and strict agency it is.

This year’s entertaining World Cup tournament, won by Germany, was undermined by repeat offender Luis Suarez who bit the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in a group match between Uruguay and Italy. Suarez posted this apology on twitter after being reprimanded for his actions.

The First Lady, Michelle Obama, tweeting about the #BringBackOurGirls campaign was both powerful and moving during the traumatic saga this year. The saga was focused around the abduction of over 10 schoolgirls from a village in Nigeria, provoking help and resources offered from Western Countries.

Robin Van Persie welcoming Juan Mata to Manchester United was a sign of things to come in the football world, with Mata being the first of many big name signings in the summer transfer window.

The leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage, is regularly on the news regarding his cabinet’s opinions and ideas regarding immigration. Paddy Power spotted a perfect opportunity to direct some humour his way during a TV appearance with this eagle eyed spot of observation.

One of the members of pop group One Direction, Harry Styles, tweeted this thank you on the anniversary of their 4th year as a band. The tweet was the most retweeted in the UK, with over 360,000 retweets.

Prince Harry tweeting on the Invictus games account was memorable as he was a key organizer and founder. The games raises money for our armed forces charities such as Help for Heroes, with the next one is planned for 2016 after a hugely successful event in 2014.
