2013 – The year of the ‘selfie’, Vine and Snapchat.

All of these are short, easy ways to grab somebody’s attention on social media and convey a message in seconds.

Increasingly in today’s world, people are time poor. The rise of Twitter only goes to support this and reinforces a behaviour that is becoming the norm.

People are looking for bite-size updates that mean they don’t need to spend ten minutes reading an article to get the gist of what you are saying.

The smaller and quicker the message is, the more effective it will be.

‘Snack media’ is becoming more important in content marketing. There is a trend that suggests the more concise the message is, the more engagement you will likely receive.

Blog posts for example; most people read these when they are in a rush or on the move, so a catchy title is key. It is important to keep paragraphs short and concise. Attack the key points and make the article easy to skim – this will keep the reader enticed.

Infographics are the latest trend of ‘Snack Media’

Companies compile statistics for others to scan through, without being faced with a wall of texts or numbers, in an infographic. The fact they are very visual makes it easier for the reader to digest the information. They are also much more likely to be shared on social media.

Photos and images are the most shared category within social media…

…and don’t retailers know it.

Pintrest and Instagram are a key driving force for sales and highlight the power to develop your brand online through images. However, quality is key. The challenge is to stay on brand and remain engaging to your target audience

In conclusion, it’s a case of giving the user what they want – without having to make them work for the information!
